WAIT?! Does anyone else have a dictionary we can use to look up retard, and what retarded actually means? But that’s not the point here is it? No. It’s the fact people don’t want to be called ‘RETARDED’; it’s offensive.
And now we’re back to having a thin skin on just about any subject. And what about when the Blacks wanted to ban the word ‘NIGGER‘ from being said? Nope that won’t work either… that would put the rap music out of business.
What if was to take on a meaning of short person, tan skin and big glasses- you think they would ban that word? Think the Asians would get all bent out of shape and want to have all the books and documents changed to something else less offensive?
It’s a WORD! It’s not armed and plotting to blow up the pentagon? Take from it what you want, it’s a word; stop being an idiot- do your job and stop talking about how a word changes terminology and usage and whether or not it’s offensive.
And this how they’re spending our tax dollars and WHY we have a deficit..
This is why the U.S. Senate is considering a bill to replace the term “mental retardation” and “mentally retarded” with “intellectual disability” and “individual with an intellectual disability” in federal health, education and labor policy statutes. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Democrat of Maryland, introduced “Rosa's Law” on Nov. 17. Senator Mikulski's bipartisan bill would have far-reaching effects because the term is used to establish eligibility for many federal benefits and services.
The bill is very important for people with intellectual disabilities, who understand that language plays a crucial role in how they are perceived and treated in society.
